Well you’ve hit the big 40, time to assess your current state of physical fitness. You have gained a good deal of
weight over the years and you are not proud of how you look in the mirror.

I have been where you are and decided
to do something about it. Weight loss tips in your forties is much like they would be for most age groups.

However when you have hit the forties plateau you need to take into consideration that you may not have exercised
in a number of years and will need to take your approach to losing weight a bit more slowly than someone in their
twenties might approach their weight loss plans. As a disclaimer let me say you should never start an exercise regimen
without first seeking the advise of your doctor, that being said here are some things for your consideration.

The best way to lose weight is through a combination of exercise and reduced dietary intake. Lets look at a pound
of fat. One pound of fat is the equivalent of 3,500 calories. That seems like a pretty big number, in order to lose
that one pound of fat you are going to have to burn off 3,500 more calories than you take in. Now don’t panic, its
not as daunting a task as you may think. We need to break that pound of fat down to a manageable equation that
we can use to fuel our weight loss approach. If you consume 500 less calories per day than you have been eating
you can expect to lose one pound of fat per seven day period. 500 x 7= 3,500.

Now that you have a clear objective placed in front of you lets look at some ways in which you might get to it.

1) Portion Control: Most Americans portion sizes are out of scale, we super size everything. When we go out to
eat if we don’t get an enormous portion of food we feel like we’ve been cheated. A reasonable portion of any
one item on your plate should not be larger than a deck of playing cards.

2) Eat More Often: We have been weaned on the notion of the three meal a day dietary framework. You need
to have smaller meals more often. You should have a small meal or snack every three hours or so. By eating
this way you are less likely to binge and you have sustained energy through out your day. Additionally be eating
like this your metabolism stays revved because you are giving your body some fuel to expend.

3) Drink More Water: Drinking more water through out the day will help to flush waste threw your system and
keep you hydrated. Drinking more water will also curb your appetite, many times we mistake thirst for hunger
so grab a glass of water rather than that bag of chips.

4) Eat More Protein: Eating more protein will help increase your metabolism. Lean cuts of meat and poultry, nuts,
fish, eggs, dairy and seeds are great sources of protein. Give them a prominent position on your plate.

5) Add More Fruit and Vegetables: Add more fruit and vegetables to your diet every day they fill you up and
don’t fill you out.

One more initial component you can add for effective weight loss, lift weights. Strength training builds muscle
and muscle burns calories by expending energy stoking your metabolism. Fat just sits there and does not use
energy. So replace fat tissue with muscle tissue. Well there you have it. Follow these weight loss tips for your forties
